About CSIR-IMMT

The CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) was established on 13 April 1964, as the Regional Research Laboratory in Bhubaneswar, located in the eastern part of India. It operates under the aegis of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. The institute specializes in conducting fundamental research and technology-driven programs across a wide range of subjects to address R&D challenges faced by the mining, minerals, and materials industries, with a focus on sustainable development and self-reliance. Over the past decade, CSIR-IMMT has concentrated its R&D efforts on empowering India to meet the challenges of globalization. The institute provides advanced, zero-waste process expertise and consultancy services for the commercial exploitation of natural resources, leveraging a public-private partnership (PPP) approach. Currently, CSIR-IMMT is establishing a strong presence in the processing of critical minerals and advanced materials and improving the resource-use efficiency apart from value addition to wastes. Further, it also develops equipment to solve the problems faced by mineral and metallurgical industries.
